Designed by You for You aims to bridge the gap in the clothing market for kids with sensory disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder. This top and shorts considers all the sensory needs from closure systems, to fidgets, and no annoying seam allowance, while also appealing to neurotypical kids. The shirt is designed to be able to be buttoned with large buttons down the back, for parents that struggle with their kids with sensory disorders stripping off their clothes in public, or in the front when parents feel it is time for those kids to start learning to use closure systems. The shirt prototype is made out of felt so that Velcro will adhere to it, however a fabric would be developed that would be less restrictive, but was still soft and allowed Velcro to stick when the shirt was manufactured. Small swatches or fidgets were created in a variety of sizes, shapes, and fabrics and were manipulated with a variety of techniques to create unique surface texture. Velcro is on the back of each swatch so that it can stick anywhere onto the garment. This way a child can get up in the morning and design their shirt with whatever textures, fidget, or colors they would like to have on them that day. It is also a fun activity that appeals to all kids as what objects you select and where you put them completely transform the garment and becomes a fun game. Fall 2018
