Reaching for Freedom
Reaching for Freedom was one of seven in a group instillation for the Kuhlman Scholarship all under the theme of Freedom. I was inspired by "Half the Sky" by Nicholas Kristof to create a piece that reflected both the horrible restraints and realities of life many young girls and women face due to a lack of education, as well as the hope, joy, and prosperity that comes when a girl receives an education. The roses are all created with book pages from a myriad of different languages because this issue is global; affecting everyone. They were decorated with both glitter and ink. The chains were created by braiding together chains of different widths, shapes, and sizes before attaching them to the form. The form was covered in an iridescent, sheer polyester and hand shaped into the desired position. Created Fall 2019
